Getting to Iceland

Fly to Keflavik (Reykjavik): Distance to Blönduós: 300 km. Many airlines fly to Keflavik including Icelandair, WOWair, EasyJet (summer), Delta Airlines, Air Berlin and German Wings. You can find out about these at www.kefairport.is/english/.

Fly to Akureyri: Fewer airlines fly to Akureyri, which is closer to Blönduós than Reykjavik (150 km). Most flights to Akureyri happen over the summer with connections to the other Nordic Countries.

Getting to Blönduós from Keflavik Airport (Reykjavik)

1. Take the Airport Shuttle from Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik: There is bus (www.flybus.is) from Keflavík Airport to the Reykjavík bus terminal BSI (duration: 45 minutes). If you are staying at a hotel or guest house, ask if the bus stops there. Be aware not to take too long in the duty free, as buses leave a certain amount of time after the plane lands. Tickets are bought in the arrivals area after baggage claim.

2. Take the Bus from Reykjavik to Blönduós

The bus company is called Stræto (www.straeto.is).
Bus 57 goes from Mjódd bus station (Rvk) to Blönduós.

Bus Directions

You might catch the 9am or 17:30 Bus 57 Mjódd to Blönduós on the same day, without staying overnight in Reykjavik. In this case: Take the Flybus from the airport to BSI (45 min trip) and a cab from BSI to Mjódd (20 minutes, approx 3000 ISK) – you will make Bus 57 if you leave in a cab by 8:30am from BSI. OR there might be a Grayline bus directly from the airport to Mjódd. Ask for Grayline at the airport, this would be cheaper. http://www.grayline.com/tours/reykjavik/keflavik-airport-to-reykjavik-hotels-5963_76/

If staying overnight in Reykjavik:

Catch a cab from your hotel to Mjódd Station OR take city bus #3 from Hlemmur.
Bus 57 (toward Akureyri) departs Mjódd Station at 09:00 and 17:30. Pay your fare on the bus – have cash.
Get off at the Blönduós stop, which is an N1 gas station (about a 4 hour journey)
